The Raisin Exercise is a mindfulness exercise in which you meditate using a raisin.
What you need for this exercise:
This is how the exercise works:
1. Sit in a quiet place and first place the raisin on the table in front of you
2. Look at them carefully without touching them. If you look at the brown color, does it perhaps have more of a red or a blue tint? Notice the surface carefully, the many furrows, the small reflections of light on it
3. Next, take the raisin in your hand and feel it. Feel the wrinkled skin and the soft but resilient consistency when you lightly squeeze it
4. Smell the raisin. What do you perceive? Maybe a fruity aroma, maybe an earthy aroma – or something completely different. When touching and smelling, you can close your eyes to concentrate fully on your other sensory channels
5. And now the big finale: put the raisin in your mouth, first without chewing. Place it on your tongue and allow time for the flavors to develop on their own. Meanwhile, concentrate fully on the taste experience
6. Finally, chew the raisin slowly and consciously. How does the taste change compared to before? Is it getting more intense? Take your time and try to taste every nuance of flavor
7. The exercise can also be done without a raisin, for example with a piece of chocolate or a potato chip. In these variants you will also learn to snack more consciously
