Earlier this week, Mitski began teasing a potential follow-up to her 2023 album ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We‘, by wiping her Instagram page clean, and sharing a cryptic link inviting fans to call a new phone line.

Now, she’s confirmed that her eighth studio album is on the way and set to arrive on February 27 via Dead Oceans (pre-order/pre-save here).

Alongside the album announcement and tracklist (which you can find below), Mitski has shared the lead single, fuzzy rock track ‘Where’s My Phone?’, as well as a psychedelic, high-octane video directed by Noel Paul.

The video is inspired by Shirley Jackson’s novel We Have Always Lived in the
Castle, and sees Mitski take on the role of a paranoid woman who is trying to protect her sister inside a gothic house, while attempting to overcome a series of obstacles.

Check it out below.

‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’ sees Mitski accompanied by a live band and orchestra. According to a press release, the LP will find the singer “immersing herself in a rich narrative whose main character is a reclusive woman in an unkempt house.”

Mitski wrote all of the songs and performed all of the vocals on the record, which is produced and engineered by Patrick Hyland and mastered by Bob Weston.

The ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’ tracklist is

1. ‘In a Lake’
2. ‘Where’s My Phone?’
3. ‘Cats’
4. ‘If I Leave’
5. ‘Dead Women’
6. ‘Instead of Here’
7. ‘I’ll Change for You’
8. ‘Rules’
9. ‘That White Cat’
10. ‘Charon’s Obol’
11. ‘Lightning’

Mitski’s last album was 2023’s ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We’. NME celebrated that album as “masterful” in a four-star review, and the project was later followed by a live film, titled The Land.

While the singer hasn’t shared a full album since then, she has dropped a handful of singles. These include a collaboration with Tamino on a track called ‘Sanctuary’, and a guest feature on the title track for Florence + The Machine’s latest album, ‘Everybody Scream’.

Mitski’s latest release was a cover of Pete Townshend’s ‘Let My Love Open the Door’. It was recorded as part of the soundtrack to A Big Bold Beautiful Journey – a Kogonada-directed fantasy romance starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.
